10 Years as a Make-up Artist

6th April 2020

Wow, I can’t believe ‘make-up by emaR’ is 10 years old!

Back in 2010 I could only dream of the things I have achieved so far in my career. I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with so many amazingly talented lovely people.

After studying a short course in London, my first job was to do make-up for a photo shoot for my friends fashion degree. That lead into working on her friends final fashion projects, then I found the photography and film students! This was great experience to build my portfolio and confidence.

A couple of years later I went back to college to study a make-up artistry diploma for a year, then hairdressing for another two years after that. Whilst I was a student, I began doing make-up for brides, which is a whole different job compared to photo shoots and films!

For nine out of the ten years I always had a side job for “just in case”, this changed last year when I finally took the leap to trust myself and go ‘fully self-employed’. Thank you to those who convinced me to do it, it has been the best thing I could have done. I have also been supported by ‘The Princes Trust’ who are awesome and I fully recommend them if you are starting a business.

As I look back, I would like to thank every single person and business that has hired me and supported me. Also, I look forward to meeting all those who I haven’t worked with yet, it’s an exciting future! Let’s see what the next ten years bring!
