Your wedding day is going to be absolutely amazing, no matter what. A lot of brides stress about the finer details however, they will fall into place on the day. All that matters is that you and your partner enjoy every moment of your special day.
I have had the pleasure of helping many brides get ready on the morning of their wedding. It’s always so lovely to see everyone come together and celebrate a day eagerly awaited by so many. Each wedding morning I have been a part of has been different in their own ways, although they tend to run in a similar way. It seems like you have so much time from waking up until walking down the aisle, however time flies by so fast and before you know it, it will be time to put your dress on. I have put together a few tips of how to keep your morning as chilled and fun as possible, these are all things I see regularly so I thought a post would help upcoming brides…
- Labels
Just about every single wedding so far someone has been running around trying to remove all the labels, tags and clothing hanger ribbons at the last minute. It’s a stress that doesn’t need to occur at all, maybe spend some time de-labelling the night before, or even a week before, just so it’s done. Remember to check under shoes. Bring scissors with you just in case.
- Clothing
Wear a zip/button down jacket or dressing gown so it is easy for you to take off without having to lift anything over your head after you have had your hair and make-up done.
- Timings
When I am hired to do make-up/hair for a wedding, I make a timings plan with each service and who needs to be in my chair at what time. If you’re the bride, make sure everyone is aware they need to be on time for their slot so there’s no backlog and rush at the end. It is also time saving if everyone comes with a clean face.
It is important to stay in the chair until your stylist has finished. Nipping off here and there wastes a lot of time, the time in the chair should be time for you to turn off, relax and be pampered.
- Bubbly
Relax with your bridesmaids with a glass or two of bubbly or your favourite drinks, it is a celebration after all! Be mindful of how much you drink, it is likely you will be nervous, don’t have too much ‘Dutch Courage’!
- The Dress
Your bridesmaids ideally should put their dresses on first and then help you into yours. If you plan to get dressed at least 45 minutes before you are due to leave your room, then you have lots of time for photos and to have your final checks before the registrars come and speak to you.
- BridesMAIDS
Your best friends/bridesmaids are your personal assistants for the day, make sure you put them to use, they will be very willing and there to help.
Bridesmaids, if there’s a problem, find out how to fix it preferably without hassling the bride with the situation. It is your job to help make sure she has the best day of her life, no pressure!
- Tidiness
One of the craziest wedding mornings I have witnessed, was that the hotel room looked like it had been ransacked. Everything was everywhere; it was the complete opposite of calming. It ended up with about 6 people looking for the brides earrings under all the ‘rubble’. Please keep the room as tidy as possible to stay organised…
- Nails
All things like nails, waxing, etc. can be done the day/night before saving a lot of time in the morning.
- Eat
Good food to eat on your wedding morning would be fresh fruit and granola for example. Try to steer clear of the greasy breakfast as these can upset your tummy, along with dealing with your nerves. Most of the time brides are too excited to eat, though it is very important you do, especially if you have your bubbly on the go!
- Handbags
If you are having a handbag for the day, sort what needs to go inside the night before, including your top up lipstick! Then place your bag somewhere where your bridesmaids know so they can look after it for you.
- Music
Background music, music to dance and sing to, however you want to get ready, make sure it’s there. You can make a playlist of songs you love, ones that make you feel calm, happy, loved up… music will set the mood.
- Scent
Depending on where you are getting ready, you can use calming scents in the room. Candles, incense sticks, room spray, or an essential oil diffuser. They include smells such as: lemon, lavender, jasmine, rosemary, cinnamon, peppermint, lemongrass, clary sage, frankincense…
- Bride = Queen
I have seen brides cooking breakfast for an entire house of guests, whilst they sit and watch TV. You as the bride should be treated like the queen for the day (at least!) Make the most of being waited on hand and foot.
- Enjoy!
Enjoy every second of your wedding morning with your girls, it will go very fast! In no time at all you will be marrying your dream partner, congratulations!
